Pollarding Pruning

The technique of having a tree's top branches cut back to the trunk, so that it may produce new shoots with dense growth , is called pollarding pruning. The regular pruning back of small branches to the same point is a more general explanation. Pollarded trees normally require regular treatment to the areas of re-growth. Pollarding is the way of pruning a tree in which the upper branches are systematically removed, promoting a dense thick head of branches and foliage which is used to maintain trees at their predetermined height. One advantage of pollarding tree's is that they tend to live longer, than trees which have not, because they are maintained in their earlier stages, and so do not have the excess weight or be so susceptible to the wind from the top part of the tree. Crown Raising (Crown Lifting)

Removal of the lower branches when the lower limbs are interfering with objects or its environment below such as buildings, people and vehicles is known as crown raising & lifting. It can provide clear views throughout the lower part of trees, for example the end of a garden over looking fields and so fourth. Stump Removal

Do you need to remove a tree stump completely or just treat it to prevent regrowth? Tree stumps can be a bit of an eye sore & hazard, but don't worry as our tree stump removal service can remove the stump using a mechanical grinder which grinds the stump deep down below the ground level which removes the root ball and surface roots, then we can refill the hole with topsoil ready for replanting, turfing or seeding leaving a nice level finish. If you decide not to remove a tree stump you can choose to let us treat the tree stump with herbicide, inserted into the stump, to prevent regrowth and suckering, honey fungus or other diseases. This treatment is harmless to animals & will not effect other trees or vegetation.

Branch Chipping

Branch chipping is a quick and easy way to reducing tree limbs and branches after they have been cut down. It's also a good way to get rid of fallen tree limbs & branches on your property or if you have a large amount of fallen branches left behind after a storm. The majority of the tree limbs and branches that are 4 inches in diameter will fit into the portable tree chipper's. When we cut down trees it always involves having to get rid of the waste material. So any cuttings are put through our wood-chipper and the chip can be either left on site for mulching borders or we can remove it from your property completely. If you need a larger tree cut down then the sections can also be removed or utilised for firewood and left on site.

Tree Preservation Orders (T.P.O.)

If a tree has, or is to be proposed, to be covered & protected then this is called a Tree Preservation Order, otherwise known as a TPO. Humbles are trained and knowledgeable meaning we have the capability to seek permission and make applications from local authorities to be able to carry out work on protected tree's or raise any appeals against proposed orders as and when necessary. As a landowner there is a legal requirement to give notice (if applicable apply for consent), prior to any works being carried out on any tree's with TPO's. If your tree has a TPO then it does not mean that work cannot be carried out, just that proposals and reasons for working on a tree with a TPO must be notified through the correct channels and may well involve the tree being inspected by qualified personnel appointed by the local authorities. They will then submit a report with their recommendations after their assessment of the tree and the site to the required planning authority either supporting or opposing the application. Tree Preservation Orders protect the benefits to the site/area where the tree is located. Reasons considered are things like the value of the tree to the surrounding landscapes, whether it aids in reduction to both noise & air pollution and if wildlife habitat's are affected.

Conservation Areas

Humbles tree services help to preserve and maintain conservation areas. We can manage the whole process for you right from your initial consultation, through to things like making applications to the local authorities and following them up until the completion of works. Although conservation areas are protected it does not mean that work cannot be carried out as long as the protocol is followed. Basically, your reasons and proposals have to be notified via the correct procedures which frequently involves the conservation area being surveyed by a qualified personnel who is appointed by the local authorities. They will then proceed, based upon their assessment of the site/area, and make the required recommendations as to what should be done and how it should be carried out. Reports are then created and submitted to the relevant planning authorities who are either supporting or opposing the application of works. Conservation areas usually contain legally preserved and protected trees, but we can check to see if the trees are subject to a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) or are located within a conservation area by contacting local authorities for you. There is a legal requirement for landowners to give notice (if required), before works within a conservation area which has TPO's.
